As we gear up to celebrate our 20th anniversary next year, walkers can look forward to more than the incredible scenery. Our 100-mile route is sporting a smart new look with the installation of brand-new Seven Stage information boards.

The Kintyre Way is, of course, already renowned for its rugged coastal beauty and warm local charm. Now, with eye-catching new information boards designed by Allyson Shields of Shields Design, visitors will have more reasons to pause and take in details, both about the landscape and the journey.

“We’ve been incredibly busy with plans for our important milestone next year,” says Kintyre Way spokesperson Dominic Ryan.

“We’re hoping to host a series of exciting, community-based events from the spring and right throughout the year. This will include our much-loved August WalkFest, of course, which always brings a buzz to the area.”

Also on its way is the Kintyre Way Passport, available on request via the enquiry form on this website.

The passport has space to collect seven brass rubbings, to be located midway on each section of the route and pinpointed  via a what3words map reference.

‘Finishers’ who complete their passport ‘stamps’ will not only get a certificate but also a free specially labelled Kilkerran whisky miniature. This certificate also allows walkers to purchase an official Finisher T-shirt or a special box of treats from the town’s world-renowned Fetcha Chocolates.

While next year’s event details are still under wraps, Dominic promises updates will appear here and across our social media platforms.

The unveiling of the signage follows a well-attended and uplifting AGM in Machrihanish last month, where community support for the Kintyre Way was on full display.

“The level of local interest in what has become one of Kintyre’s most popular natural tourist attractions is very encouraging indeed,” notes Dominic.

“It really shows how much people value the Way, not only as a trail but as part of the community’s identity.”

If you’ve thought about getting more involved, now is your chance. We are on the lookout for new Trustees, who are keen to help steer the route into its next 20 years of success.
